Suitable pH electrode

by David
(Dallas)

I use a couple of check points when I choose my pH electrodes. It has of course happened that I picked the wrong electrode type. Well, then I have learned something new. . . Experience is the best teacher.

My check points to identify a suitable pH electrode:

• Application. For what application will you use your pH electrode? Most supplier of pH electrodes also provides a pH electrode selection chart. The selection chart will probably give you a couple of choices for different applications.

Check the proposed electrodes with respect to:

• Temperature.

• Pressure.

• pH Range.

Good luck!

Starting point
by: Ken

The pH electrode selection chart provided by the supplier is a good starting point. However, for more tricky applications it's more "the trial and error principle" you have to apply. Of course, the more you understand of your application and how a pH sensor works the faster you will find the "best electrode".
